Why I did not intervene in the crisis of the Assembly – Oyebanji

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji said he did not interfere in the affairs of the State Assembly and did not have a preferred candidate for a House leadership position, as it was not appropriate for him to do so.

It was then that he reiterated his commitment to the rule of law and the separation of powers in the state.

Oyebanjo said this on Tuesday when the new Speaker of the House, Olubunmi Adelugba, who replaced Gboyega Aribisogan, was formally introduced to his office by the President of the State's All Progressives Congress, Paul Omotoso.

According to a statement released by the state government, Oyebanji appreciated the APC leadership in the state for resolving the family rift among state lawmakers and commended the House for demonstrating the confidence that their constituents and the leadership of the party rested in them.

The governor took the opportunity to appeal to the new president for a speedy passage of the budget that was in the House.

He said: "My comment begins with an appreciation to the party leadership for resolving this family disagreement, this is not a crisis; with democracy comes tension and tension. There are disputes and disagreements, but the beauty of democracy is that there are built-in mechanisms to resolve them.

"And that's what happened. The APC is one. I'm a loyal member of that party; the APC gave me the platform to stand on, without the APC, I wouldn't be here today.

"I refused from day one to be dragged into this simply because I was sworn to uphold the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The constitution is clear on the powers and duties of all the branches of government.I run the executive arm of government, they don't interfere in what I do and it would be wrong and a violation of the constitution for me to interfere in what happens in the House of Assembly.

"What I have done as governor is to make sure to protect lives and property and that is within my power as governor of this state. I did not intervene but I am happy of the outcome. As progressives, we have a culture and the culture is respect for leadership.

"And Madam Speaker, our budget is before the House of Assembly and we work so hard to make sure we deliver on our promises to the Ekiti people, but we cannot violate the rules and regulations. I appeals for a rapid adoption of the budget.

"There are many things that we should have submitted to the honorable Chamber, but we are awaiting the adoption of the budget.

“While congratulating the new president, I'm just going to implore the party chairman to bring everyone in and for the first time, I'm going to have to quickly respond to all the insinuations on social media about what happened. passed in the House of Assembly. It's a family affair and as a family we would solve it. »

Earlier in the speech, Adelugba dismissed rancor in the House while thanking the state APC chairman for the role he played in ensuring that the party's decisions were respected.

"From the beginning, everyone has referred to the Ekiti Legislative Assembly as the most peaceful and respectful, with particular mention of the number of bills we have passed because we mean business with our legislative activities,” she added.
