Women's Euros: France knock out defending champions Netherlands to complete semi-final roster

France earned a deserved 1-0 extra-time win over the Netherlands on Saturday to knock out the defending champions and reach the Women's Euro semi-finals for the first time.

The Netherlands have won eight of their last nine games in the competition, a run that took them to glory five years ago, but were outclassed by France at New York Stadium in Rotherham .

Dutch goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar made a number of fine saves to frustrate Les Bleues, the best of which saw her deprive Wendie Renard of the final act in regulation time.

But France found a 102nd-minute breakthrough through an Eve Perisset penalty, awarded following a VAR check after Dominique Janssen clearly brought down Kadidiatou Diani.

Van Domselaar got the kick with his fingertips but couldn't hold it off and the Netherlands, who knocked out France at this stage in 2009, couldn't find an equaliser.

Corinne Deacon's side, who finished with an expected goals value (xG) of 4.45 to the Netherlands' 0.60, will face Germany on Wednesday for a place in the final.
