World Cup: Didier Deschamps criticizes the French star for having played with the gold chain against Poland

France coach Didier Deschamps has slammed defender Jules Kounde for playing with a gold chain against Poland in the knockout stages of the two-team World Cup on Sunday.

Deschamps said Koundé was not supposed to wear a chain when playing on the pitch against an opponent, adding that the Barcelona star was lucky not to be in front of him.

Koundé started the game against Poland wearing the collar as France won 3-1.

He played with it before an assistant referee made it clear to him that he was not allowed to do so and made him remove it.

Asked about the gold chain Koundé wore for most of the first half, Deschamps said in his post-match press conference: "I even said to him - 'You have lucky not to be in front of me, otherwise…'.

“The referee had told us that as soon as there was a stoppage of play… the players were not allowed to wear bracelets or necklaces. Nor will they start wearing watches or sunglasses. It is not allowed. I thought he was taking it off, but apparently he wasn't, it's our fault."
