World Maritime University commends NIMASA for gender inclusion

Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has been praised for its gender equality policies which have manifested in both the number of women employed by the agency as well as those sponsored for capacity development at home and abroad.< /p>

This was made known by the President of the World Maritime University (WMU), Dr Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, who paid a working visit to the agency's headquarters in Lagos to discuss training and workforce development with agency leadership led by the Director. -General, Dr. Bashir Jamoh.

Dr Doumbia-Henry also thanked NIMASA for its long-standing relationship with WMU, saying, “We here at World Maritime University have had a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Nigeria and the NIMASA in particular.Our visit aims to further strengthen the ties between us while exploring areas of future collaboration.

"I also want to particularly commend Dr. Jamoh for the gender-neutral nature of the agency, especially under his leadership. We have seen this in the number of female agency officers who are sent to the UGM for maritime studies."

For his part, the CEO of NIMASA, Dr. Jamoh, explained the reasons behind the long-standing relationship between the two parties, saying, “Our continued relationship with the World Maritime University is informed by the agency's commitment to professionalism, research and development and a determination to achieve global best practices in carrying out our responsibilities.

"This informs our choice of UMG when we send some of our employees to the institution for further training.

"We have a deliberate policy in line with the International Maritime Organization to encourage greater participation of women in the maritime industry.

"From this development, it is clear that NIMASA's commitment to developing the human capacity of its staff remains unwavering.

"This, in turn, is expected to have a ripple effect on the Nigerian maritime industry as the level of professionalism would be enhanced."
