'You can't cry about the past' - Antony hails Ten Hag's 'harsh' response to 'unacceptable' 7-0 thrashing

Manchester United striker Antony has hailed manager Erik ten Hag's 'tough' response to the 7-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool, which he says made it 'hard to sleep' ".

United's biggest defeat of the Premier League era came at the hands of Liverpool last week. Indeed, the Reds scored seven goals ahead of United, who couldn't score a single goal on their own.

The poor performance really came out of nowhere. United were flying, having not lost for 11 games before traveling to Anfield.

It also came just a week after Ten Hag inspired his men to the first trophy of his reign, at the first request. As the beating was unexpected, so what the manager would have liked in the next game was a response.

And that's what he has; the Red Devils scored four goals against Real Betis in the Europa League, winning 4-1 in the first leg of their round of 16.

Striker Antony scored his sixth goal for United in the win. The Brazilian hailed Ten Hag for his tough response to the Liverpool loss which pushed his players to bounce back.

"We come from an extremely painful defeat. It was hard to sleep that day, but in football you can't cry over the past," he said, as quoted by Subway.

"We know it is more difficult for the manager because he is the face of the club and gives interviews all the time. It was hard for him, for all of us and we take it as a lesson.

"He was tough on us in the right way at the right time. But we all face what lies ahead of us now. The band is united and the fans are on our side. That's the most important thing .

"We know that this result is never acceptable. It was important to show a reaction. I was very happy to see the fans show their support."

Indeed, Antony continued to praise the fans. The striker feels that the bond between them and the players is particularly strong at the moment, even despite the heavy defeat.

"Our fans are amazing. Even after the game at Anfield, we went to cheer the fans outside and they sang back. It gave me goosebumps," he added .

"So happy to see them here giving us the same support even after this unacceptable result. And they will be back to give us our fuel against Southampton on Sunday."
