"You have to convince my wife!" - Van Gaal does not rule out changing Belgium

Holland coach Louis van Gaal has joked that his wife should make the final decision on his next destination as he doesn't rule out taking over as Belgium boss.

Van Gaal will step down as manager of the Oranje following the end of their World Cup campaign in Qatar.

The United States are the opponents of the Netherlands in the round of 16 on Saturday.

One team that hasn't progressed from the group stage is Belgium, with the second-best team in the world - according to FIFA rankings - finishing third in Group F after Thursday's goalless draw against Belgium. Croatia.

Roberto Martinez confirmed after the match that his six-year tenure as Belgium coach was coming to an end and on Friday Van Gaal was told the Red Devils could be his next job.

"Belgium is a really nice country with really nice people, and Knokke-Hesti is a nice seaside town," Van Gaal said with a smile.

"It's surprising [Belgium is absent]. There are players in the team who are really wonderful, when you look at them individually. But it all depends on the team.

"I've never been to their practices, I don't see all the games. I saw the last game, they should have won and they would have qualified."

When asked if he would consider moving, Van Gaal joked, "You have to convince my wife!

"Jokes aside, no. I'm still free to make my own decisions, but there are some countries I wouldn't move to and my wife wouldn't - simple as that.

"I'm here with the Dutch team, we want to be world champions, and then we'll see if there are any offers on the table.

"I said, if we become world champions, football is so opportunistic that I know there will be offers, I know that very well, but at the moment we are not world champions and if I believe the Dutch media, we will never be world champions!"

Van Gaal's immediate task is to guide the Netherlands to the last eight, where they would meet either Argentina or Australia, but he is far from underestimating the United States.

"All I can say is what I saw. I was never present at practices or meetings or when he prepared his players," he said.< /p>

"What I have seen is a vision, what I see is a team that is keen to execute on that vision, which is of the utmost importance, and I see the conviction of the players.

"It must be fantastic for a coach. That's how I feel about my group. I've been spreading this message for a year and a half because I don't think I've ever had a group like this.

"You see it on the pitch, but I'm apparently the only one in the Netherlands who sees it; it's probably me!"
