Zee World's "Dance Naija Dance" Reality Show Premiere

Dance Naija Dance, a dance reality show born out of the fusion of Nigerian and Indian cultures, premiered on Zee World.

Producers say the reality TV competition aims to reveal and showcase the best dance crew in Nigeria. The show is Zee World's first original indigenous content in Nigeria.

Dance Naija Dance is presented by a mix of personalities and dancers from Nollywood and Bollywood. These include hosts - Hero Daniels and Pelumi Buari, choreographers/mentors - Sashin Kandhai and Kenneth Agabata, Kunle Remi and Uraysha Ramrachia will be the judges.

From resounding success in India to inevitable greatness in Singapore and 52 countries across Africa in 2021, producers say it's time for Zee World's Dance Naija Dance to land in Nigeria.

Format

Dance Naija Dance features a fusion of Nigerian-Indian dance movements uniting the two cultures through music, vibrancy, color and diversity.

The reality show will run for ten weeks, every Saturday and Sunday, at 7 p.m. on Zee World, DStv channel 166 and GOtv channel 125.

Winners will receive a cash prize of five million naira and baskets from all sponsor brands. The winning group receives 2.5 million naira, the runners up receive 1.5 million naira and the solo winner receives 1 million naira.

During the unveiling of the show, CEO of ZEE Africa (Africa and Indian Ocean Islands), Somnath Malakar, said the reality show was their way of giving back to the vast Nigerian community that loves Zee World.

Mr. Malakar said Nigerians love to dance to music, they love Bollywood, and so they think if we can do a fusion of that, it will be well adopted.

He said, "This fusion of the two cultures in entertainment will expose Nigerian acts to a global community of over a billion people who enjoy Bollywood. Zee has just started local production in Africa, so all faces that we see today in Nigeria and countries in sub-Saharan Africa will be seen in India or in international productions as we will take them to over 60 countries around the world."

Dance Naija Dance Presenter Hero Daniels said that one unique thing about the dance show is that it addresses specific societal issues. The dancers must perform the theme of each episode and convey the message via entertaining dance steps to the viewers.

While filming, Daniels said he learned that Nigeria has many similarities, far more than one might imagine, between Indian and Nigerian cultures.
