Nicolas Cage Won't Return as Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, and He Doesn't Know Why

The Nicolas Cagesaissance has unfortunately slowed down a bit.

After stealing every scene as the hilariously dark version of Spidey in 'Into the Spider-Verse', Nicolas Cage's Spider-Man Noir was meant to top the list of returning characters fans simply had to need to appear. next... right? Well, reality continues to be full of disappointment and heartbreak as it seems "Across the Spider-Verse" just doesn't have room for Detective Spidey's black-and-white antics. He's not the only well-received character noticeably lacking in the sequel's marketing, however, as many of the original film's stars - Spider-Ham, Peni Parker and all - didn't get so much as it did. glimpsed in one of the images so far.

But honestly, while everyone would have liked to see more of Cage's deliciously retrograde vocal performances, there's something refreshing about the idea that the creative team is avoiding the urge to bring the characters into a sequel just because fans expect it. Ideally, story requirements would always come before marketing, popularity, and other relatively petty concerns. And, to be fair, it's not like "Across the Spider-Verse" is running out of opportunities for fan-service, either. And who knows, maybe Cage is just playing coy and hiding the surprise of a secret cameo at some point in the upcoming film. Have hope, friends!

"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" hits theaters on June 2, 2023.
