Up to 100,000 NHS nurses will leave in the first of a series of NHS strikes over an expected winter of discontent.

The Royal College of Nursing has announced the 76 NHS trusts and services that will see nurses withdraw their tools for strikes scheduled for December 15 and 20.

He insists the proportion of his 300,000 members taking part in walkouts will increase in January if the government refuses to open wage negotiations.

General Secretary Pat Cullen said: 'Ministers declined my offer of formal pay negotiations and opted to strike instead.

"This left us with no choice but to announce where our members will go on strike in December.

“The nursing profession stands up for the profession and its patients. We are tired of being taken for granted and unable to provide the care patients deserve. »

Strikes will take place at 53 trusts or services in England, all but one (12) NHS employers in Wales and across Northern Ireland (11).

Possible strikes in Scotland are on hold after the devolved government reopened wage negotiations and a separate wage offer was made.

Priority services include cancer treatment, kidney dialysis, inpatient mental health services, and community services that allow patients to be discharged.

He said negotiations between trusts and local RCN officials must ensure "minimum personnel available to provide emergency, immediate response to save life, limb or organ".
