NYFW Recap: The Contemporary Market

Year after year, New York Fashion Week showcases the breadth of American fashion. A category that continues to grow: the contemporary market. Here, WWD brings together a mix of brands with serious companies and their proposals for Spring 2023.

"We were contemplating those summertime moments of deep reflection and quiet pleasure so beautifully captured by cinematographer Néstor Almendros, and inspired by the soothing yet vivid colors of Danielle McKinney's paintings," said Caroline Belhumeur, Vince's creative director. Color, in fact, has become something of an element the brand's staple over the past few seasons, but Vince-style color based on its core offering of neutrals.

The voluminous pants, very trendy this season, were low waisted, combined with more shirts and jackets fine. The stitching was looser overall and had a feeling of ease. The label's basics (leather pieces, washed silk and lightweight cotton) were all there too, creating a collection of pieces that are seasonless and can be go-to pieces beyond spring.
