media watchdog Ofcom has launched an investigation into whether a GB News program hosted by two Tory MPs breached impartiality rules .

There were 39 complaints about an edition of the Esther McVey and Philip Davies show on March 11.

In it, the couple interviewed Chancellor Jeremy Hunt about their budget.

Ofcom said it would look into s whether it complied with the rules on politicians presenting programs and whether it included a sufficient range of views.

GB News did not comment on the survey.

Ofcom rules say politicians are not allowed to be newsreaders, interviewers or reporters on news programs" unless that, exceptionally, it is editorially justified".

However, they are permitted to host current affairs programming, so long as a range of views is reflected.

Whether Saturday Morning with Esther and Philip qualifies as a news or current affairs program, and whether a wide enough range of opinions was included, is likely to be at the heart of Ofcom's eventual decision.
