Optimize both your external environment and your internal state: 4 steps to success

Good music is playing. The sun is shining, the water fountains are flowing. Beauty is everywhere. This is my external environment right now. Inside I am enlightened, happy and powerfully inspired. Smile on my face. Heart wide open. The synergy brings out my best as a leader and as a human being.

It's wonderful to be able to create an outdoor environment that inspires you and brings out the best in you. And in business, you can't always do that. However, what you can still do is manage your inner state – it's always a choice. Not easy. It takes practice and dedication. Creating an optimal outer environment and being responsible for your inner state are keys to being an Amare (Love-based) leader. And Amare's leadership is exactly what our world needs right now.

Is your outdoor environment optimized (as much as possible) for your well-being?

Are you ready to commit to optimizing your indoor environment, no matter what?

If so, will you take action now?

1. Improve your outdoor environment in two minutes. Imagine entering your workspace for the first time. Notice what makes you smile. What holds you tight. Identify three quick and easy things you can do to increase your smile and release tension. Do them now.

2. Improve your indoor environment in two minutes. Close your eyes. Breathe deeply. Squeeze all of your muscles and hold for a count of three, then release. Repeat three times. Take three more deep breaths. Smile.

3. Commit to one percent improvement daily. Make a promise to yourself to take five minutes a day to improve your indoor and outdoor environment. Write it down and post it. Keep track of what you do. Ask someone to be an accountable partner and check in on your progress daily.

4. Make it a corporate affair. Ask your employees to identify one small thing that they can do, and that you can do as a leader, to optimize their external environment. Think sight, sound, taste. Think of energy moving or stuck. Consider what will work in virtual and physical environments.

Do what you can to make your external environment and that of the company as conducive as possible to happiness and productivity. At the same time, work diligently on your inner environment. No one but you controls this.
