Ahmed and goalkeeper wicket Ben Foakes enters the squad in Karachi in place of pace setter James Anderson and all-rounder Will Jacks.

England have already won the series and are looking for a 3-0 sweep.

No visiting team has ever beaten Pakistan 3-0 in their home country, while England have only ever won three sweeps in an away Test series of three or more games.

Ahmed from Leicestershire will be 18 years and 126 days old when the test begins on Saturday. Former captain Close was 18 years and 149 days old when he played against New Zealand at Old Trafford 73 years ago.

"I'm watching him closely, not letting him know I'm watching him closely," England captain Ben Stokes told BBC Sport.

"It's a great opportunity to let Rehan out and really express himself. There's not too much pressure to perform, just to have fun

"You only debut once, you can never do it again. If we can make him look like he had a good time there, and walk away with wickets and runs, that would be great."

Ahmed was named to the England squad as he left training early on Friday due to illness.

He won't be the youngest to play a Test for England - left-arm spinner Holly Colvin was 15 years and 336 days old when she played for the women's team against Australia in 2005.

He was part of the England team that reached the Under-19 World Cup final that year and played for the England Lions against the South Africans on tour this summer.

He was later named to the Lions team of England for a training camp in the United Arab Emirates and added to the full squad during a warm-up match in Abu Dhabi in November.

Ahmed adds a second premiere spin-bowling option line at the XI of tourists on a Karachi pitch which should rotate.
