Pat Carroll: actress who played Ursula in The Little Mermaid dies aged 95

Pat Carroll, the actress who played the menacing sea witch Ursu la in Disney's The Litt the Mermaid, has died aged 95.

Carroll, who won an Emmy in 1957 for the television show Caesar's Hour, died Saturday of pneumonia at her Massachusetts home, her daughter Tara Karsian told The Hollywood Reporter.

Her comedic talents saw her working with stars such as Mickey Rooney and Mary Tyler Moore, with much of his early television career being spent on comedy shows.

She was also in The Love Boat and ER.

Carroll's daughter, Kerry Karsian, posted news of his mother's death on Instagram, asking his followers to "honor him by laughing loudly at everything today (and every day)".

But presumably its most memorable role was that of a half-woman-octopus Ursula in 1989's The Little Mermaid, based on the original story by Hans Christian Andersen.

She told author Allan Neuwirth, in his book Makin' Toons: Inside the Most Popular Animated TV Shows and Movies: "It was the My lifelong ambition to make a Disney movie. So, I was their hook, line and sinker."
