Paul Allen: Record $1.5 billion art sale for late Microsoft co-founder's collection

Pa Intings and carvings belonging to the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen have sold for a record $1.5 billion (£1.3 billion).
< p class="ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00">It was the largest auction in history, according to Christie's.The auction house has said works by Vincent van Gogh, Georges Seurat, Paul Gauguin, Paul Cézanne and Gustav Klimt each sold for more than $100m (£88m), breaking individual records for these artists.
Proceeds from the sale will be donated to charities Allen supported before his death in 2018.< /p>
The most expensive artwork purchased was Seurat's 1888 work Les Poseuses, Ensemble (small version), a renowned work of the dotillis me, which grossed $149.2m (£131m) including fees, Christie's said.
