Shocking mermaid-like remains left locals perplexed after washing up on an Australian beach.
Bobbi-Lee Oates thought she had found a corpse - or even a new species - when she spotted the creature at Keppel Sands, Queensland.
She said, "We were driving along the beach looking for a campsite, and we couldn't help but notice how the skull looked like a human.
>"So we immediately stopped being confused as to what it could be, and why does it look like a human skull?"
Photos taken by Bobbi-Lee reveal a long body with her rib cage visible, but no discernible limbs, eyes, or ears.
The 34-year-old estimated he was over six feet long.
She said, "It had a human-shaped skull with an elongated jaw and hair similar to the color of a cow or kangaroo, but with hair missing in many places due to decomposition .
"It was exactly like a mermaid shape, but hairy, because it seemed to have a tail or some limb."

"Then we were excited because I thought we had discovered a new miracle species - we were overwhelmed and surprised."
Posting her photos to a Facebook group specializing in marine biology, the Rockhampton local found everyone as perplexed as she was.
“You just caught a mermaid,” one person said. "She's a mermaid," agreed another.
Others were disturbed by the human-like appearance of the remains.
Suggested comment: "Contact a local police officer, that sounds human." "He's a human companion," another person claimed.
Some suggested it was a rotting dugong, but others shut them down. A man...
