Piers Morgan claims France's World Cup squad was 'deliberately poisoned' ahead of Argentina final

Piers Morgan believes France have been "deliberately poisoned" ahead of the World Cup final showdown against Argentina on Sunday. Illness had swept through the French camp before the match, with several top players missing training to speed up their recovery.

The bad health within the France team started before their semi-final against Morocco. Midfielder Adrien Rabiot and centre-back Dayot Upamecano missed the clash through injury, but their assistants helped the Blues through to Sunday's final with a 2-0 victory.

Deschamps' nerves were on the mend within the week, however, when more cases of the virus were confirmed in the camp. Raphael Varane, Kingsley Coman and Ibrahima Konate were reportedly affected which undoubtedly hampered the team's preparation.

Having witnessed a thrilling first half, in which Argentina dominated and France failed to take a shot, Morgan: "It wasn't a virus, the French team is obviously intentionally poisoned."

Whether that's true or not, many French fans may have thought the same based on their dismal first-half performance. The showdown was billed as Kylian Mbappe versus Lionel Messi, but the former was absent as the latter took charge, putting the Albiceleste ahead with an early penalty.

The momentum was one-sided and France struggled to get out of their own half even though, on one of the rare occasions they did, Argentina launched a ruthless counterattack which was ended by an emotional Angel Di Maria to double his lead. by the break.

Following Morgan's lengthy interview with Messi's GOAT rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, last month replied: "Morgan fears that Argentina will win this game because it puts an end to the Ronaldo-debate once and for all. Messi. Messi will be the better of the two and possibly the greatest of all time."
