Karl Templer's ambition is to offer neat and refined clothing that exudes confidence and sense of calm.

Behind the scenes, the artistic director of Ports 1961 says his search for beauty began to from patterns and pieces for men and resulted in a soft, clean and airy wardrobe with a nonchalant style.

"It's [about] classicism and playing on the codes of taste", has he said.

Cue the opening look, Julia Nobis in a flowing, sculptural wide-legged pantsuit, followed by a strapless duchess dress with short sleeves that exudes the casualness of a cotton t-shirt.

It incorporated some nifty rotations and except for the shabby look, do-do- and-repair knit cardigan and skirt sets made from overlapping panels of old cardigans, they made the most interesting pieces.

Templer inventively manipulated stripes and checks, the first in varying sizes and applied to cotton pajamas with paneled muslin backs and handkerchief dresses, the latter rendered in superb knits made of origami-style woven cable bands.

"The starting point was very architectural and then it was very simplified…that's the idea of someone quite handsome and confident,” he said.

It was a coveted and smart collection, with the right amount of creativity raising the guard tropes -dress.
