Karate Combat Professional Sports League to Launch DAO for Fan and Athlete Governance

The Karate Combat DAO will launch under a three-year sponsorship agreement with Hedera's HBAR Foundation, which is expected to be released in December 2022.< /p> Karate Combat, a major full-contact martial arts league, has announced its decision to form a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) to transfer its governance to fans and athletes.

The Karate Combat DAO will launch under a three-year sponsorship agreement with Hedera's HBAR Foundation, which is expected to go live in December 2022. Karate Combat's internal governance token holders, KARATE, will be able to vote on various decisions, which include determining the league's budget, resource allocation, vendor selection, marketing strategy, and rule changes.

In addition, the DAO will allow fans to vote on athlete-related decisions such as fighter contracts and fight selections based on pre-determined influence limits. Karate Combat plans to give away 50% of its internal tokens to the community for free, to be used for participation in the DAO and a game application.

Participation in Karate Combat's DAO is expected to expand globally, as the league broadcasts to more than 100 countries through consumer and online channels, including CBS Sports, Eurosport, YouTube and TikTok. Adam Kovacs, President of Karate Combat, highlighted the need to improve fan engagement, stating:

“The sports world must evolve to increase engagement with a new generation of fans who have grown up on social media and digital games. They expect to be active participants in the action, rather than passive spectators."

According to Karate Combat, the league hosts an online community of more than 3.5 million fans who could potentially help guide future decisions. Shayne Higdon, co-founder and CEO of the HBAR Foundation, envisions the next DAO to attract more users to the Hedera network, which in turn will help bring "tangible, real impact to end users".
