PSG will 'try their luck' to sign Man City midfielder Bernardo Silva; Barcelona still enthusiastic

French champions PSG are said to be 'determined' to beat Barcelona until the signing of Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva.

Barcelona - who are hugely in debt - have been extremely active this summer, bringing in Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde and renewing Ousmane Dembele's contract.

Manchester City are Premier League favourites, but that confidence seems misplaced

They hope to sell midfielder Frenkie de Jong in order to balance the books, however, they owe the Dutchman £14-17m in deferred pay.

It is believed that De Jong is against a move elsewhere not only for football reasons, but also because of the money the club owes him.

Manchester United agreed a fee with the Blaugrana earlier this summer but failed to convince the player to switch from Catalonia to Manchester.

The Red Devils' struggles in recent seasons - in addition to their lack of Champions League football - have made personal terms a huge stumbling block.

Chelsea - who won the Champions League last year and qualified for the competition through the league in 2021/22 - have reportedly expressed an interest in De Jong.

Barcelona are believed to be counting on selling the former Ajax midfielder if they want to do more business in the transfer market.

If De Jong leaves, they will receive around £70m, which means they can clear a transfer for Bernardo Silva from Man City, which will apparently cost around that figure.

It was revealed last month that Barca 'want' to sign Premier League trio Cesar Azpilicueta, Marcos Alonso and Silva before the summer window closes.

Meanwhile, a report elsewhere suggested City would be willing to sell their Portuguese playmaker in order to fund the signing of Lucas Paqueta from Lyon.

While Barca boss Xavi sees Silva as 'the last piece of the puzzle' and club president Joan Laporta is confident he can strike a deal, the La Liga giants could cope to some competition for the player's signature.

According to French media Le10sportand Foot Mercato, PSG have joined Barca in pursuit of Silva.

The Parisians will 'try their luck' for the 27-year-old and are 'determined' to sign him.

He is 'ready to leave' City after winning four Premier League titles, an FA Cup and four League Cups with the club.

Having played for Monaco, Bernardo is "open" to a return to France. New PSG sporting director Luis Campos brought the Portuguese star to the Monegasques from Benfica in 2014.

"Several doors are open" for the player, which is now Campos' "priority" by the end of the window.
