QSI expands club ownership with minority stake in Portugal's Braga

October 10 - Expanding a portfolio of club owners including Paris Saint-Germain and KAS Eupen, Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) has acquired a minority stake in Portuguese club Braga.

Braga currently sit third in the Portuguese top flight. No value was given for the 21.67% stake that QSI purchased in the club.

In 2011, QSI took control of Paris-Saint Germain and poured hundreds of millions into the club with the aim of winning the Champions League. In 2012, via the Aspire Zone, KAS Eupen in Belgium became part of the Qatari portfolio, largely to provide a gateway to Europe and gaming experience for players from the Doha-based Aspire academy. p>

"SC Braga is an exemplary Portuguese institution, with a prestigious history, enormous ambition and a reputation for excellence on and off the pitch. As investors and partners, we look forward to seeing the club innovate , to grow and develop even more, through its men's and women's teams as well as commercially and its brand, within all the communities and companies that it accompanies,” said Nasser Al Khelaifi, President of QSI.

Al Khelaifi is also Chairman and CEO of Paris Saint-Germain, Chairman of beIN Media Group and Turkish mobile and broadcast platform DIGTURK. He is also president of the European Club Association and sits on the executive committee of UEFA.

Braga has won the Portuguese Cup three times and often participates in the Europa League.
