Republicans push transgender restrictions in more states

With many legislative sessions winding down, Republicans continue to try to restrict medical treatments for gender transitions. In Montana, Rep. Zooey Zephyr was penalized after speaking out against one such bill.

Mrs. Zephyr, a transgender Democrat, was working in a hallway at the Montana Capitol yesterday after being kicked out of the House chamber. She angered Republicans when she said a bill that would restrict transitional care for minors was "equivalent to torture".

The bill became law on Friday.

In Kansas, lawmakers failed to override the Democratic governor's veto of a bill that would have banned transitional care for minors.

Lawmakers, however, overruled the governor's veto to enact new rules on how transgender people could be accommodated on overnight school trips and in prison.
