BBC chairman Richard Sharp is bracing for a 'damning' report on his appointment to the post after helping facilitate an £800,000 loan guarantee for Boris Johnson.

Investigation by lawyer Adam Heppinstall KC is expected to be published on Friday morning.

According to the Times, the 'damning' investigation will leave the BBC chairman to fight for his career as he concludes that Mr Sharp broke the rules by creating a perception of conflict of interest.

But he was reportedly reluctant to resign, which would leave Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to determine his fate. The newspaper article could not be confirmed.

Richard Sharp found himself embroiled in a cronyism case earlier this year for helping Boris Johnson secure an £800,000 loan.

His old friend Sam Blyth, a Canadian businessman, offered Mr Sharp to help Mr Johnson when the then Prime Minister was struggling financially in 2020.

Mr. Sharp was able to put Mr. Blyth in touch with Simon Case, the most senior official.
