Rishi Sunak will face a showdown vote on his flagship plan for Rwanda next week, as the Tory revolt over the issue grows.

The prime minister's tenure was rocked by the resignation of Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick, who failed to appease the conservative right with his emergency Rwanda bill .

There is growing speculation that Mr Sunak will “back me or fire me” at his hastily called press conference on the growing crisis on Thursday.

However, the embattled Tory leader appeared to appeal to Labor to help him get his bill through Parliament.

“The real question, when it’s about all these votes, is whether it’s for Labour,” Mr Sunak said. "So the real question when it comes to Parliament... what will Labor do about this vote?"
