Mirror readers have delivered a message to Rishi Sunak that he must stop his elimination from train ticket offices. Hundreds of activists took the fight to the Prime Minister's doorstep joining a rally outside Downing Street.

The Tories back controversial proposals drawn up by train bosses to close ticket offices at 974 stations in England. Passengers have just a few hours left to stop the closure of their local ticket office, with the public consultation ending tomorrow at midnight.

Protesters holding Daily Mirror placards emblazoned with 'Save our ticket offices' demanded that rail companies and ministers drop the plan. They were greeted by car horns and applause from the audience. They marched with union banners through Westminster, from the Department of Transport to Whitehall, where they gathered outside Number 10.

RMT union boss Mick Lynch, who organized the rally, told the Mirror he wanted Mr Sunak to “think again” and warned that the campaign to end the culling will “not would not disappear" after the consultation deadline. He stressed: "The key to reversing this trend is for Rishi Sunak to ask Mark Harper, the Transport Secretary, to take a fresh look and make it a meaningful consultation."

With more than 500,000 responses to the official consultation, Mr Lynch said: “They can't have half a million responses and just throw them in the trash. Urging the government to "drop" those plans, he also accused Mr Sunak of not listening. "He's too busy making enemies...I think he's trying to make so many target enemies before next year's general election and he's stopped governing."

He added: "We will continue the campaign the day after tomorrow. This phase of the campaign reaches a milestone tomorrow night at midnight, and then we will see how we can actually campaign in the localities. We are not getting far. "

The RMT general secretary also thanked The Mirror for "joining the people" in the fight against the closure of ticket offices...
