Ronaldo is 'p*ssed' at Man Utd before Ten Hag 'change', says Rio Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand says Cristiano Ronaldo is 'p*ssed' to sit on the Manchester United bench but explained how things will 'change' under Erik ten Hag.

Ronaldo returned to United in the summer of 2021 and was the Red Devils' top scorer in their worst Premier League season last term.

The Portugal international hasn't started in any of United's last four Premier League games, all of which they've won, coming from the bench for cameos in all of them.

Ferdinand says Ten Hag made the right call in dropping the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, but believes Ronaldo will regain his place in the starting XI.

"He's going to be f*****, he won't be happy," Ferdinand told William Hill.

"You can't do what he's done in that time and be happy and content being on the bench, or not getting the numbers you want to get. But he'll be professional, he'll be focused , for he will know that his time will come.

"He hasn't had a pre-season, so I understand why he's not playing, and Marcus Rashford is scoring and assisting goals at the moment, so I understand why he's staying in the team.

"The team is the overriding factor at the moment. The way United started the season, they make sure the team does the right things and forget about the individuals.

"Obviously Casemiro is a big rookie, but he's not playing. Ronaldo isn't playing, but their time will come. And, when the time comes, I think they'll both stay in the team. I think just that it will and the manager will turn things around."

Ferdinand explained Ronaldo's change since joining United nearly two decades ago.

"The Ronaldo that people have seen in the last four, five or six years is not the Ronaldo that came to United," added Ferdinand. "He was a showman. People came to the stadium saying 'I came to see Ronaldo take me out of my seat today'. That was it.

"Now at the end of his career it's like 'I come to see a moment in the game, where he decides the game'. Whereas before he could give you five, six, seven, eight , nine or 10 moments in the game, because he was just pure talent.

"He could score, he could create one, but it was just about making someone stupid, he wanted to embarrass people, it was a joke, man, an amazing player.

"But he got enough kicking in practice and enough practice from us, it got him to a point where he realized that actually the end product trumps everything. You can entertain to a certain extent, but you need an end product - and he left us as the best player in the world."
