Despite his illustrious career, Scholes has not committed to keeping himself in peak condition as a young man at United.

He told Gary Neville on The Overlap that he spent a lot of time in pubs and that the club were concerned about how much alcohol he drank.

Scholes told Neville: "Sometimes we would stay there (at the pub) until eight or nine in the evening from noon, I'm not proud of it, in front of the A and B teams on a Saturday night ."< /p>

When asked if he would still be fine, Scholes replied, "Sometimes. Most of the time, but that was my way of life. I grew up in pubs as a kid.

“Everywhere I went with my mum and dad as a child involved a pub, that I was outside the pub kicking a ball against the wall. weren't allowed in pubs so I was just outside waiting for my mum and dad all the time I remember one time when I was 16 or 17 or 18 when I was with the youth team, Eric Harrison called my dad and said "we're a little worried about Paul's drinking".

"They said they were a little concerned about my drinking. I remember my dad saying 'he's allowed to have fun, right?' I thought" damn, dad, you shouldn't really be saying that.' No, no, he's not drinking.'

"That's what I grew up on. Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and sometimes Monday, came out."

Scholes also spoke to Neville about his 'most important' goal for the Red Devils, revealing it was a 'miskick', and explained how he felt his time at United was over when refused to play a game against Arsenal.
