Tenerife: holidaymakers race for deckchairs with towels

Swarms of holidaymakers battled for deckchairs at dawn at a four-star hotel in Tenerife.

Alarming footage taken at the Spring Hotel Bitacora in Playa de las Américas shows scores descending to grab the best poolside spots as soon as possible.

Vacationers, armed with towels, sunscreen and bathing suits, rush to deckchairs in the clip, which was shared on social media site TikTok.

It has been reported that some determined tourists, including Britons, waited 90 minutes in the first hour of the morning before being allowed out on the coveted deckchairs.

But writing online, some called the behavior "sad" and "embarrassing".
