Florida: A fisherman gets his finger 'bitten' by a shark

A man had his little finger ripped off by a shark as he tried to free a hook from the predator on the side of the boat.

The terrifying incident off Florida in July was filmed with a young boy watching the horror unfold.

Brett Reeder was on a fishing trip with his family a few miles south of Miami in the Content Keys when he caught a shark while on a small boat.

In the video that has gone viral on social media, he leans over the gear and appears to struggle with the large fish while trying to undo a hook stuck in its fin.

A child, possibly his son, is in the foreground watching while swinging his leg in the water and asking the animal not to "bite our boat".

The shark suddenly appears agitated and pulls away from Brett slightly before turning around and slapping his hand.

He then thrashes and writhes several times with blood clearly visible all around the underside of his white jaw.
