'Sir Keir Starmer must make it clear why he should be the next Prime Minister'

The country is crying out for real change - Keir Starmer must convince it he's the man to make it happen, writes Kevin Maguire

A serious man from an ordinary household who, through hard work and ability, has become one of Britain's most senior civil servants, he has a good chance of being the next Labor Prime Minister .

But who is Keir Starmer and what is his startling vision for convincing voters to win the keys to number 10?

The blast from the past Peter Mandelson was accused by mumbling MPs of disloyalty for shouting 'too many voters have no clear idea who Starmer is' when the Prince of Darkness last fall mocked Corbynistas that he had recovered his party.

Yet it's also a legitimate question when Starmer ditched the left-wing platform, including public property and higher taxes on top earners, to plant his flag in the center.

Presenting as a man of integrity and principle over law-breaking Boris Johnson might do the trick unless Durham forces his resignation with a Covid fine or ruthless Tories replace a prime minister shattered by a new face.

The windfall tax on energy subsequently stolen by the Tories was a nod to Gordon Brown's old economic and social justice policies.

But Starmer's Labor does not question Thatcher's legacy of failed privatisation, dangerous deregulation and insecure anti-union laws.

The damaging Brexit is largely ignored, Starmer terrified of being portrayed as a general fighting the last war instead of the next.

Tory's taunts that he's boring are a joke when Starmer in private is dryly funny, laughing at the nonsense of politics and life in general. An aide suggested he needed to be humorous in public, even poking fun at his supposed wetness.

Anyway, the nation has found out the hard way that picking a joker isn't fun anymore.
