Skio (YC S20) is hiring – subscriptions for Shopify, easy ReCharge migrations

What

We help brands on Shopify sell subscriptions (+much more in the future). Growth is extremely good after the launch at the end of April 2021.

Ways we stand out: Founded solo. Generally speaking, solo-founded companies can cede more ownership and that's what we're doing here. We strongly believe in hiring 1 great candidate rather than 3 good candidates and giving more ownership to the first ideal candidate. After adapting to the product market since we are “governing” a $2.1 billion holder with PMF (ReCharge). Liquid I.V., Bev, Muddy Bites and most of our customers come from ReCharge. Fintech business model + transaction fees (1% + 20c on each order). One of the best times to join in terms of risk/reward (post-PMF while still pre-Series A). Backed by Y Combinator (if investors matter to you). The D2C/Shopify app ecosystem is low-tech. No competitors with strong engineering teams. Lots of fruit at hand. Prepare to be a Founder (if you wish). Feel free to learn a lot here and go on an adventure again when the time comes. Flat organizational structure (with understanding tracks/titles first). Enjoy reading about it here. Effective meeting culture. Quickly make reversible decisions on Slack. Make irreversible decisions a little slower with meetings. Short meetings instead of many 30m meetings. Great long-term vision to create network effects. Inspired by Netflix culture. Think of us as a startup/high-upside version. Trillies, not billies. Unicorn means nothing. We are targeting the kermit ($1T+ valuation).

Why

A big part of joining a startup is betting on the founder(s). With that in mind (and also to save you some time), here are a few reasons to bet on me:

Solid track record: LoL NA solo queue top 200 (over 100 million players worldwide) in 1 year. Good Leetcoding internship offers (Pinterest, Stripe) & dropped out after 1 year to join Pinterest (c. 2017). I entered Y Combinator in 1 month after the idea (with a different idea). Wasn't a good idea so I ended up eating shit for 1 year before moving to Skio. Obtained a market-ready product + raised a seed for Skio within 4 months of launch. Was solo during this time (did P.Eng., Sales, Support and Fundraising). No personal safety net (eg wealthy family, previous dates) which forces me to work hard. Thick skin. I used to be fired up from my gaming days :-) It helps me stay cool in high pressure situations (I can help calm angry people down). Will not type early. Many founders are starting to focus on other things in the $1-10 billion range (eg thought leadership, angel investing, other ventures). I will do my best to take Skio to the trillies (kermit).

Outline

Honest. Does not lie by omission / does not believe that the end justifies the means. Can grind (i.e. work more hours compared to a large tech company with 1000+ people). Really good at something with a high skill ceiling. Poker, piano, games, sports, old startup/project, anything. Adventure oriented. We're here to build a legendary business and create fun memories (+ hopefully lots of money). Similar sense of humor. We're picking up an 8-year-old $2.1 billion incumbent as a one-year-old business and it'll be more fun if you think it's hilarious. That's pretty much trolling at the commercial level. High delta in the circumstances and the result. It's a pretty strong signal when you're able to do...
