The socios and the Argentine FA leave behind the feuds of the past with a new contract for the 2026 World Cup

September 1 – The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has confirmed that Socios.com will continue to be the exclusive provider of the official $ARG fan token until at least 2026, although the two partners have been in a fight in a legal dispute over rights in January.

As part of the renewal, the AFA is expanding its collaboration with Socios.com "to create a fun, Web3-ready community of engagement and rewards for Argentinian fans around the world through $ARG Fan Tokens ", said Socios.

In January, Socios sued the AFA for terminating their sponsorship deal.

An Argentine court has issued an injunction, ordering the AFA to recognize the three contracts signed with Socios "including the fan token, the national team sponsorship and the naming of the sponsor, and to refrain from 'take any action, initiate any proceeding, or enforce any measure that would interfere with the exercise of Socios' exclusive rights.'

Socios claimed that the AFA breached the contract after the FA signed a deal with Binance to sponsor the national team. Earlier in the month, the AFA canceled a previous deal with Socios, alleging he defaulted on a payment four months ago. Socios denied these allegations.

This spat appears to be firmly behind both organizations now that they are creating opportunities for rewards and engagement around the 2022 World Cup, the Copa América in 2024 and the 2026 World Cup. Argentinian superstar Lionel Messi is already a global ambassador for Socios.com.

Alexandre Dreyfus, CEO of Chiliz and Socios.com, said, "As strategic partners, we will continuously work with the AFA to create new ways for fans to engage and be rewarded through to $ARG Fan Tokens. We are excited about all the possibilities on the horizon, starting with this year's FIFA World Cup, and we look forward to building a vibrant and connected community for all fans Argentinians on Socios.com."

The cordial understanding was underlined by Claudio Tapia, president of the AFA.

"We are very pleased to announce the continuity and extension of our commercial agreement with Socios.com. It is important for our association to continue to generate digital revenue, such as in this case $ARG Fan Tokens, which also allow us to be close to national team fans around the world,” said Tapia.
