Sophie contemplates her future - and her past - in exclusive photos from the 'Surface' finale

Sophie's exploration of her past has devastating consequences in the finale episode of Apple TV+'s new Surface drama, and now she seems to be struggling with her future as the first season draws to a close. POPSUGAR has exclusive photos from the latest episode of the series' freshman initial release, including one showing a seemingly contemplative Sophie (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) in the bath. A second image shows Sophie's husband, James (Oliver Jackson-Cohen), alone, with San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge in the background.

Episode seven ended with Sophie distraught after the death of Baden (Stephen James). Viewing the footage of the ferry he gave her, she learns that she was not, in fact, pushed off the boat. She also wonders if James, who knew about Baden and Sophie's relationship, was involved in Baden's death. As Apple TV+ teases in an episode description for episode eight, "Sophie seems to be moving on, but can she accept a life with James as questions about her past linger?"

"Surface" began streaming on Apple TV+ in July, and also stars Ari Graynor, Marianne Jean-Baptiste and François Arnaud. The series is produced by Apple Studios and Reese Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine. The last episode will be available on September 2.
