Spotify filter fails to block explicit lyrics

Young fans of Olivia Rodrigo, Eminem and other music stars saw explicit lyrics on Spotify even when users blocked explicit content.

The streaming service often displays the original of a song. lyrics, which may include racist insults and swear words, on screen when the clear "radio-friendly" version is broadcast.

The BBC discovered that the problem was occurring with dozens of big songs from artists like Dua Lipa, The Weeknd, Drake and Lil Nas comment.

The BBC understands that the corporation is aware of the problem and is working to resolve it.

Spotify introduced a system designed to manage explicit content in 2018, after parents pressured the company to mark explicit songs with an "E."

Anyone who wants to avoid hearing swear words can choose to block explicit content. in their settings, and clean versions will often be offered instead.
