Wives of world leaders join the first lady of Ukraine for a discussion about post-war life.

The wives of world leaders will discuss Ukraine's postwar reconstruction this weekend at the second First Ladies and Gentlemen Summit, hosted by Olena Zelenska, the first lady of the country.

Some of Ms. Zelenska's counterparts will participate via video link from studios in Brussels, Warsaw, London and Washington. The main studio leading the event on Saturday will be in Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital.

In a statement released earlier this month, Ms Zelenska, who launched the summit last year, said the central focus this year would be human capital, as there is often too much focus on the economy and infrastructure when discussing reconstruction.

"But all talk about Ukraine's recovery is meaningless if they don't prioritize restoring people's moral and physical health," she said. said in the statement.

In his Friday night address, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine said last year's conference was an example of using the soft power of the first spouses to solve problems and expressed enthusiasm for this year's event.

The inaugural summit of the first spouses took place last August and 11 first ladies from around the world visited Kyiv. In addition to a few early gentlemen, several others participated through a video link. Hillary Clinton, the former Secretary of State and US First Lady, spoke to the group from a distance.

Earlier this week, Ms Zelenska, during a rare appearance of a foreign first wife before Congress, shared photos of children whose lives had been destroyed by war and called for more weapons to defend against what she called "games of hunger russians" tearing families apart.

She also hopes to raise funds to replenish the supply of ambulances in Ukraine through United24, a Ukrainian public charity, at the summit of Saturday.

Mrs. Zelenska has also recruited a star to draw attention to this year's summit, according to Ukraine's Ministry of Culture and Information Policy. Those expected to take part from one of the remote studios include Unicef ambassador David Beckham and actors Richard Gere, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis. Ms. Kunis, married to Mr. Kutcher, was born in Ukraine. The couple raised millions in a crowdfunding effort to support displaced Ukrainians earlier this year.
