The Swamp Thing DC Movie Will Be "Much Horrifying" Than Other Projects

One of the projects that DC Studios' James Gunn announced at the unveiling of the first stage of the DC Universe last week was a Swamp Thing movie, which would "investigate the dark origins" of the character.< /p>

For this reason, the next DCU Swamp Thing movie will be much scarier than all of DC's other projects. Gunn notes that "it's a much more gruesome movie, but we'll still have Swamp Thing interact with the other characters."

Safran noted that Swamp Thing will be a great example of connecting the DC Universe while varying the tone depending on the project.

“The last movie we wanted to talk about is Swamp Thing,” Safran told DC. "We bring this up because it's important to point out that in these stories, while they're interconnected, they're not all the same tonally. Each set of filmmakers brings their own aesthetic to these films, and the pleasure is to see how these tonally different works blend together in the future."

Gunn also talked about the success of a character like Rocket Raccoon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, despite not being a traditional character or even a person. Gunn said they were going to "augment" that with Swamp Thing, and lean into the horror aspects fully.

Currently, not much is known about Swamp Thing or most of the projects planned by DC Studios. However, a recent report from Variety suggests director James Mangold is in talks to direct the Swamp Thing movie. Mangold is currently finishing the next Indiana Jones film, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate, and will next direct Going Electric, a Bob Dylan biopic starring Timothée Chalamet, as well as a Buster Keaton biopic starring Rami Malek. /p>

Swamp Thing is currently set to be the final film in DC's Chapter 1, which will also include Gunn's Superman: Legacy, a Batman and Robin-focused film titled The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and multiple TV shows.
