A group of swimming instructors refused to help a toddler who was stuck in a railing after saying it was 'not their job' to help him.

The relatives of the troubled three-year-old have become furious after SwimWell staff members refused to intervene in the September 12 incident at the Keith Spry swimming pool in Wellington, New Zealand .

According to Stuff.co.nz, a family friend rushed to approach three school instructors who were preparing for the start of classes after the girl's father struggled to free their three-year-old child from a railing surrounding the pool.

But documents from a local government incident reveal that staff refused to help, with a section reading: 'She asked them to help but was told 'not my job luv'. That made the family friend scream."

The instructors even reportedly "turned their backs" on the family friend after giving their answer, leaving her and the girl's father upset.

She then asked for a metal pole to rescue her with herself, with the father eventually releasing the girl after she entered the pool.

No lifeguards would have been present around the pool section at this time.

Board documents called the incident "serious" and called the instructors' response "completely unacceptable".

The child was previously known to suffer from anxiety around water.
