Switch from Tories to Labor was because Tory voters stayed at home, party chairman says

Tory losses in Thursday's (July 20) election were due to Tory voters staying home, Greg Hands said.

The Conservative party chairman spoke to TalkTV after his party lost two safe seats as Labor won Selby and Ainsty and the Liberal Democrats won in Somerton and Frome.

A 24% move to Labor lists was "largely due to Tory voters staying at home", Mr Hands said.

"The result in Uxbridge reflects something wider."

The Tories managed to narrowly hold on to Boris Johnson's former seat of Uxbridge and South Ruislip.
