T20 Blast: Tom Alsop leads Sussex Sharks to thrilling win over Surrey

Ravi Bopara (3-18) and Tymal Mills (2-23) led a superb display from Sussex on the pitch to eliminate the hosts for 148 , three bullets short of their allowance.

Sharks also struggled on worn ground so that Sunil Narine (2-18) reduced the visitors to 56-4 after 10 overs.

But a 77-point stand from Tom Alsop (51 not out) and Michael Burgess (48) brought Sussex home with a ball to spare.

Needing 10 off last time out, Alsop brought in his fifty balls on 41 from Tom Lawes' fourth delivery to even the scores, before pulling the winning single off the penultimate ball to pick up the Sharks' first Blast win of the season.

Surrey rested Sean Abbott, two days after the 'Australian tied the fastest T20 Blast of the century, but ran 30-0 after three overs.

Their progress slowed after losing destructive openers Laurie Evans (23) and Will Jacks (13) within five balls, and Sam Curran fell to the point of James Coles' superb southpaw dive.

Surrey remained in a good position at 102-3 in the 12th when Bopara (3-18) came on and eliminated Narine (29), Tom Curran (23) and Jamie Smith (19) in successive overs to leave Surrey 126-6.

Mills then knocked down Jamie Overton to trigger a meltdown as the hosts lost their last four wickets for two on nine.< /p>

Ali Orr (24) helped the Sharks race to 27-0 after three overs, but when afterwards he fell to a fine catch from Evans at the ravine and Narine in the trap from Bopara, the visitors limped 56-3 at the halfway point.
