The tax cuts promised by the favorite of the Conservative leader Liz Truss won't "completely solve" the cost-of-living crisis, a high-ranking ally had admitted.

Rishi Sunak seized on Truss's rejection of "helpers" at the cost of life - arguing his tax cuts 'won't hit the sides' for low-income families, amid growing calls for an emergency budget.

Truss backer Brandon Lewis, the former Northern Ireland secretary, admitted his promised tax cuts alone would not be enough to 'fully solve' the spiral of life

Asked about Ms Truss' tax plans , Mr Lewis told BBC Radio 4: "I understand that This doesn't completely solve the problem, this is a big, international, global shift in inflation and energy prices that we are facing - she too wants to present an emergency budget."< /p>

The former minister told Today: 'We will look to do everything we can to help people - that's what an emergency the budget is about."

"So rather than having handouts, what we're doing is having a low-tax economy that drives growth and so with people with more money in their pockets, they are better placed to cope with some of the challenges we see."
