The most elite club has a new member in the top mix.

Gautam Adani, owner and founder of (a port development and operations conglomerate in ), took third place in Bloomberg's Billionaires Index, released Thursday.

In February, Adani was dubbed Asia's richest person, according to Bloomberg, and now the entrepreneur sits behind Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk as one of the richest people in the world.

Gautam Adani has an estimated net worth of $137 billion, according to Bloomberg. He is the first Asian to take third place among the richest people in the world.

What is the Adani Group?

The 60-year-old billionaire owes his fortune to his company, Adani Group. After starting out as a diamond sorter, he joined his brother Mansukhbhai Adani in the plastics business, before setting up his own import/export business, Adani Exports, now Adani Enterprises, in 1988. And from there the company continued to expand into a variety of sectors.

According to the brand's website, it is made up of seven publicly traded companies focused on transport, infrastructure and energy.

The Adani Group owns India's transport and energy market, owning the country's largest port and airport operators in the private sector, according to Fortune. The company also has the largest private gas and coal distribution sector.

According to Forbes, the Adani Group generates $13 billion in revenue.

Gautam Adani is married to his longtime wife Priti Adani, who works as a dentist and runs the Adani Foundation, which has pledged to donate $7.7 billion, or 600 billion rupees, in honoring the billionaire's 60th birthday in June. The couple have two sons: Karan Adan, CEO of Adani Ports & SEZ Ltd, and Jeet Adani, Vice President of Adani Group Division.
