The joys of a family trip to Lapland to meet the REAL Santa Claus

The Incredible Vacation Where Kids Are the Santa of Attention: The Joys of a Family Trip to Lapland to Meet the REAL Santa (and VIP Guest Verdict - Age 6) Carol Driver Takes Daughter Amelia six-year-old in Finnish Lapland The Santa Claus they meet there sounds "very convincing". They are staying at the Arctic Circle Hotel, in Suomu - which is on the Arctic Circle. >By

We're told we're heading to the sorting office to deliver festive letters. But when the elf Sparkle pushes the door of the log cabin, surrounded by fir trees and snow, it is the man himself who welcomes us, the real Santa Claus.

From the front of a festive card, it looks very convincing. Too bad, I'm a little stunned. My six-year-old daughter Amelia smiles broadly and rushes over to hug the cheerful-looking man who has a really genuine beard and very flushed cheeks.

In his sweet Irish melody, he asks her what she would like for Christmas. But says no, he can't meet her request for one of the toys in the world - and instead she gets a wrapped sticker machine (which we bought before the visit and secretly brought with us ).
