This weekend is the start of the Tour de France. The world's greatest cycling race is famous for its breathtaking climbs and hairpin descents. So why do runners line up in Denmark, a land famous for being as flat as a pastry plate?

Jutland is a good place to find out — flying into Legoland airport in Billund — and it's good to say you've clinched a stage or two of the Tour.

I descend to Vejle, on the edge of Vejle Fjord, where stage 3 of the Grand Départ will begin on Sunday, where some 200 cyclists will set off to cover 2,000 miles in 23 days.
