The most anticipated video games of 2023

Now that we're greeting 2022, it's time to look towards what games we'll be getting in 2023. The New Year already has several great games on the schedule, with the promise of many more to be added to the schedule. From Legend of Zelda to Assassin's Creed, we have several familiar franchises making a comeback in 2023.

Most of the first quarter of the year has already been filled. Most games with solid release dates arrive in January-April. However, several games are scheduled more generally for 2023 without confirmed dates. We will always count them unless we have reason to think otherwise. Also, at the bottom of the article, you'll find a list of upcoming games that don't have a release date, but we'd be very happy to see in 2023.

Delays are always an unfortunate reality of the game development world, so it's very likely that not all of these games will launch in 2023. Of the 20 games I mentioned on the 2022 list, 6 have been delayed out of the year's release window. It is therefore possible that some of the games on this list will not be released in 2023, although we will remain hopeful as best we can.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The next Breath of the Wild sequel won the most anticipated prize at this year's The Game Awards - and well deserved it. Few other games have had so much hype before release. Tears of the Kingdom has been delayed from 2022 (you might hear me say that often), but hopefully we'll finally see it released this year. This new title follows the story of Link and Zelda after the climactic finale of the previous game as they attempt to rebuild Hyrule. It will launch on Switch on May 12.

Hot hot on the heels of the hit Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Intelligent Systems is launching a new title in the tactical RPG series. Engage is set on the continent of Elyos and features a mysterious amnesiac named Alear. They must join a new set of characters to defeat the Fell Dragon. The new gameplay mechanic for this title is Emblem Rings, which allow Alear to summon heroes from previous games to fight alongside them. It will be released for Nintendo Switch on January 20.

Speak

Square Enix's new IP, Forspoken, was yet another title we almost got in 2022 - but it was reportedly released closely tied to God of War Ragnarök. All told, it gives this open-world action-adventure game more room to breathe. The response to protagonist Frey has been… mixed, but the actual gameplay looks fun. The developers have also released a demo which is currently available to play. The game will be released for PlayStation 5 and PC on January 23.
