Pixel 7 will have snore and cough detection

Google today announced its new Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones at a hardware event in Brooklyn. While the company focused a lot on the phone's security, voice, and camera features, it also briefly introduced a new health feature in a slide: cough and snore detection. p>

On a daily bedtime summary screen, the Pixel tells you how long you snored and how many times you coughed while you slept.

"With your permission, Digital Wellbeing can help you understand sleep quality by analyzing cough and snore audio during the night. Processing happens right on your Pixel 7," said said a manager during the presentation.

App researcher Mishaal Rahman previously posted the setup screen for this feature late last month, ahead of Pixel's official launch. The screen says the feature uses the Pixel 7's microphone without recording or sharing data with anyone.

According to a Google support page, you can enable this feature from the Bedtime section of the Clock app and also check your data there. Another way to access this data is to go to Settings > Digital Wellbeing & Parental Controls > View cough and snore activity.

It is unclear if the feature will be available out of the box or will roll out later as an update. We've reached out to Google to find out more, and we'll update the story if we hear anything.
