The Son Teaser: The director of The Father is back for more heartbreaking family drama

To be fair, it's only a 53 second teaser, which means it hides a lot. Hopefully the full trailer will explain the plot of the film more clearly. Mostly we see Jackman's Peter being a businessman who ends up caring for his teenage son Nicholas (Zen McGrath) after some type of incident which, according to the movie's official synopsis, involves the disappearance of Nicholas from school. Peter's partner Beth, played by Vanessa Kirby, seems to think something is wrong with the boy, while his mother Kate, played by Laura Dern, is also worried about him.

This teaser may be a little opaque, but the film is based on Zellner's 2019 play, which The Guardian's review "movingly demonstrates the powerlessness of a parent facing filial depression". It sounds pretty heartbreaking, which means that if the film lives up to the coin, it will be Zellner's second feature film that shines a light on the terror of neurological diseases and their impact on a sprawling family.

The character of Anthony Hopkins, Anthony, is therefore supposed to be the same one we saw bickering with Olivia Colman in "The Father", although none of the other actors of "The His" does not appear in this film. Interestingly, this is only the second of three acclaimed plays Zellner wrote as a trilogy. The third, "The Mother", has not yet been adapted for the big screen. Sony Pictures Classics film "The Son" will premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September ahead of its November 11, 2022 release.
