They wear: Corsica, France

After two years and three confinements, the French, and their summer style, have flocked to the island of Corsica. Known for its turquoise waters, local rosé and stylish seaside villages, the mountainous island 230km south-east of Nice is a Mediterranean holiday classic - and style on the island in 2022 does not disappoint.

Outside Paris, pre-COVID French street style was traditionally chic, but reserved. The most flamboyant looks were reserved for the streets of the fashion capital. But that's all changed since the pandemic, and this summer, button-up looks have given way to a more playful approach to style - and, most interestingly, fresh take on everything classic.

In Bonifacio, a town on the southern tip of the island, bright colors and accents from the early 2000s dominate the streets. Summer essentials like sun hats and linen shirts are reinvented. Now they're paired with bold patterns, cargo pants, biker shorts (which seem to be everywhere this spring and summer) and chunky shoes (again, ubiquitous the world over).

The recent European heatwave that sent temperatures soaring into triple digits – combined with the 'anything goes' attitude that COVID-19 has left in its wake – means there is no more fear to show skin, which makes for both literal and metaphorical fresh air in French street style.

Monochromatic athleisure is also making an appearance on the island, the ideal European holiday that combines the best of France with a strong Italian vibe (after all, it's just 8 miles north of Sardinia). But this athletic staple is about the only neutral palate on an island blooming with color - and cool.
