A 59-year-old man killed three other people before being found dead on a park bench hours later, police say.

The horror killings began in the German town of Weilheim after officers were alerted that a man was lying seriously injured in the garden of an apartment building.

The 60-year-old man was found unresponsive when police arrived at the scene around 5:00 p.m. Friday, and despite efforts to save him, he later died.

A manhunt ensued and just over two hours later, a lifeless man on a park bench was reported by a passerby in the city's Holzhofstrasse area.

Emergency services found the 59-year-old man dead upon arrival.

A subsequent visit to his address later resulted in the discovery of two deceased 57-year-old female bodies, who were described as having suffered "serious injuries".

Based on initial investigations, it is suspected that the 59-year-old killed the women first, followed by the man, before committing suicide.

All three are believed to be family members or known friends of the suspect.

Police and forensic medicine are on the scene and the Munich II public prosecutor's office has now taken over the investigation.
