TikTok's response to BeReal launches in multiple countries after its US debut

TikTok's response to BeReal has reportedly started appearing as a standalone app in multiple countries.

What happened: TikTok Now launched in select regions outside the US on September 18, TechCrunch reported, citing data from digital and mobile intelligence provider Sensor Tower.

Data indicates that the independent app has started ranking among the top 100 social media apps for iPhone in Madagascar, Mozambique, Kenya, Malta and Singapore.

The app has been ranked among the top 500 social media apps for iPhone in 38 countries such as Pakistan, Cambodia, Thailand, Czech Republic, Vietnam and Israel.< /p>

Data from Sensor Tower showed the Android version of the app was live in Bermuda. The iPhone is sold by Apple Inc AAPL, while Alphabet Inc GOOGL GOOG manufactures the Android mobile operating system.

TikTok did not immediately respond to Benzinga's request for comment.

Why it matters: On September 15, TikTok introduced rival app BeReal as a trial. The ByteDance-owned short-form video company said it will make TikTok Now available in the TikTok app in the US.

In other regions, the company said it may make the feature available as a standalone app.

BeReal asks its users to share a quick photo once a day and uses a phone's front and back cameras simultaneously. The app favors spontaneity over awareness of the image.

Meta Platforms, Inc META is already working on a similar feature on its Instagram platform called "IG Candid Challenges".
