Concerns are reportedly beginning to be raised over the management of Chelsea under Todd Boehly. The massive exodus of local players to Stamford Bridge has been questioned by club members, with the sale of Mason Mount to Manchester United coming under intense scrutiny.

According to the academy team, the academy staff pushed Conor Gallagher to stay at the club while making his feelings clear about the sale of Mount. "A lot of people here aren't happy that Mason was allowed to leave. He was the bright light used for the kids. That's why we want Conor (Gallagher) to stay too," a source told the newspaper.

Similar concerns have been raised over the sale of academy graduate Lewis Hall to Newcastle United. The 18-year-old will join the Magpies on loan this season before finalizing a permanent transfer next summer for £28million.

Hall is one of England's most exciting young full-backs and his departure would have caused a stir among the coaching staff behind the scenes. Gallagher, who has been at the club since he was eight years old, was expected to follow him out the door before the transfer window closed.

However, Mauricio Pochettino, on the recommendation of academy staff, opted to include him in his first-team plans this season. West Ham saw a £40million bid for the 23-year-old rejected last month.

The Blues were previously willing to sell him for around £50m but are now considering extending his contract and giving him a bigger role in the squad. Gallagher should have a good run of games under his belt this year with Carney Chukwuemeka out of action for an extended period after undergoing knee surgery following an injury he picked up in Chelsea's loss to the Hammers on Sunday.

Asked by reporters last month about speculation surrounding Gallagher's future, Pochettino replied: "In football, anything can happen. Now I'm happy with him and his performance, he still has two years left on his contract.

“I am happy with him and his performance. For the moment, there is nothing to say. Although Pochettino has also admitted recently that his side need more reinforcements in the center of the park.

"We need to add a player in midfield," Pochettino said in a press conference last month. "We need one more player with experience. That's the idea. We're working, the club is working on that. Right now we're working to strengthen that area and others as well. players who are here on the circuit are in our plan."
